Seeded Paper

What seeds can I have?

Each sheet of our paper has only one type of seed…

  • Australian natives – Swan River Daisy or Lemon-scented Bottlebrush
  • Herbs - Basil, Oregano, Parsley or Thyme
  • Vegetables – Carrot or Lettuce

Do you keep paper in stock?

Yes, we do. We try to supply most orders directly from stock. This avoids the delay caused by a slow (handmade) production process. However, if stock is depleted or your order is larger than our current stock, we will have to slot your requirements into the production schedule.

Can I have a special seed?

Yes you can but extra charges apply and these can make it cost-prohibitive for small orders.

Does the seed choice make any difference to cost?

All our standard seed papers are the same price, regardless of what seed they contain.

How long do the seeds last?

The viable life of the seeds depends on the type of seed, eg Bottlebrush and many other Australian natives will last up to 5 or 7 years, whilst most herbs and veggies would be OK for a couple of years. Not all the seeds in the seeded paper will remain viable for the same length of time.. they don’t all suddenly lose viability at 4 years 364 days! There will be a gradual tailing off, the longer the paper is kept, the fewer seeds will remain viable. Much the same as buying a packet of seeds in the shop, they have a ‘sow by’ date.

What colour is the seeded paper?

All our seeded paper is a light beige/off-white colour. To get a different colour, we suggest printing a light colour.

Is it recycled?

Yes, all our paper is 100% recycled.

What is a deckle edge?

A deckle edge is the wavy or feathered edge characteristic of handmade paper. The deckle (from the German, ‘deckel’ meaning lid) is the frame which is held on top of the mould (which is another frame covered in mesh). The purpose of the deckle is to stop the pulp from flowing off the sides of the mould, keeping it within the required size of the paper. Some pulp inevitably seeps between the mould and the deckle, resulting in the characteristic deckle edge.

Some Paper-Go-Round paper is available with this deckle edge, giving you the opportunity to add a style and panache reminiscent of days gone by!

Printing

Can I print on the seeded paper myself?

Yes. The best way to do this is with an inkjet printer… most are suitable. Even the deckle edge paper is suitable for inkjet printing. Using a toner-based printer (laser) is likely to give variable results as the toner might not get to the bottom of the slight surface indentations.

Can I get you to print it for me?

Yes, we can print anything you like! Normally we would use artwork that you supply but we can also design and layout artwork for you. This is often an easy way to get your finished invitations etc with the least hassle! Just leave it to us!

Quarantine

Can I send the seeded paper anywhere in Australia?

Western Australia and Tasmania have quarantine regulations which control the entry of seeds (and other potential bio-security hazards). Our seeded paper with Lemon-scented Bottlebrush seeds is not allowed into either WA or TAS. It is allowed into all other States and Territories. The other seeded paper is allowed into WA and TAS, subject to conforming with their documentation requirements and being appropriate seeds (which depends on the seed batch we have used to make the paper).

I am in WA, can you send the seeded paper to me?

Yes, but only if the seed is acceptable to WA Quarantine. We cannot send any Bottlebrush paper as this is not allowed entry to WA. Note that it is possible your order will be stopped and inspected by WA Quarantine. If this occurs, you may be billed (by WA Quarantine) for the inspection fee (around $40).

I am in WA. Once I get the seeded paper, can I send it interstate?

Yes. You can send it anywhere in Australia from WA. However, TAS has quarantine procedures -call Paper-Go-Round for more information.

Can I send the seeded paper anywhere overseas?

It depends where you want to send it. Most countries have controls on the movement of seeds.

Planting

What are the planting instructions?

Our standard planting instructions are

Soak card in water until soft. Place card on seed raising mix (in pot or ground). Lightly cover with more mix, water and keep moist. Germination should take 7 - 21 days.

Note that it is important to keep the seeded paper moist (and therefore soft).

Where can I plant the seeded paper?

We think it best to be careful about where you plant our seeded paper. Herb and vegetable seeds are obviously suitable for planting in a garden or back yard. We also offer a wide range of Australian natives. We recommend that these, too, are planted in a back yard to give easy access for watering and keeping the newly planted seeded paper moist.

Refer to Planting for more considerations on where to plant.
